Boone Hall Plantation is the only plantation in the S.C. Lowcountry to present a live presentation of this unique culture adapted by African slaves. It includes a large Colonial Revival plantation house, a number of slave cabins or cottages, several flower gardens, and the historic "Avenue of Oaks" a nearly one-mile (1.6 km) drive up to the house with southern live oaks on either side, originally planted in 1743. Boone Hall Plantation was founded in 1681 when Englishman Major John Boone came to Charleston and established a lucrative plantation and gracious home on the banks of Wampacheone Creek. Boone Hall Plantation has been open to the public since 1956. Boone Hall Plantation is also one of America’s oldest working, living plantations. There have been continuously growing and producing crops for over three centuries: cotton and pecans, strawberries, tomatoes, and pumpkins, and many other fruits and vegetables.
