Gettysburg early in the second half of the nineteenth century was a small American town. At the height of the Civil War, this place became, however, the scene of events that changed the face of the whole USA and affected the lives of millions of citizens of this country. The civil war in the years 1861-1865 is one of the most dramatic and at the same time groundbreaking episodes in US history. The fate of the war resolved itself in 1863 due to two events in Gettysburg - one of a military nature, the second - symbolic. There were the greatest battle of the Civil War and a short speech delivered by President Lincoln of the graves of fallen soldiers in the North. The Gettysburg Museum of the Civil War, featuring items from one of the largest collections of Civil War relics in the world, the exhibit galleries and interactive programs take the viewer through the causes of the Civil War to its bloody end, with extensive displays on the battle of Gettysburg and the personalities who served in the armies as well as the civilians who experienced war on their doorsteps. Gettysburg National Military Park offers together with a museum about the American Civil War, the 1884 Gettysburg Cyclorama, buses to see the Gettysburg Battlefield and Eisenhower National Historic Site. The museum displays artifacts including cannon, firearms, and uniforms, and includes an exhibit gallery and theater. Additional facilities are a "computer resource room", a bookstore with gifts, and a restaurant.
