American Visionary Art Museum is an art museum located in Baltimore. The museum specializes in the preservation and display of outsider art (also known as "intuitive art," "raw art," or "art brut"). Visionary art as defined for the purposes of the American Visionary Art Museum refers to art produced by self-taught individuals, usually without formal training, whose works arise from an innate personal vision that revels foremost in the creative act itself. The museum has no staff curators, rather than focusing shows on specific artists or styles, it sponsors themed exhibitions with titles such as Wind in Your Hair and High on Life. The museum presents draft visionaries and discovers their inspiring stories. The aim of the museum is: expand the definition of a worthwhile life, encourage each individual to build upon his or her own special knowledge and inner strengths, promote the use of innate intelligence, intuition, self-exploration and creative self-reliance, empower the individual to choose to do that something really, really well.
