Whitewashed villages clinging to the mountains extending near the coast is one of the great attractions of Andalusia. Like some other towns on the Costa del Sol, Mijas is divided into parts - the new Mijas (Mijas Costa) and Mijas Pueblo. Mijas with donkey taxis and a maze of stairs and narrow streets is a true gem. Mijas history dates back to the Roman and Arab civilizations. With a little later sometimes related to the legend, which has a small town and it concerns one of the attractions, namely the Chapel of the Virgen de la Pena cut into the rock. Legend tells of finding in 1586 the miraculous image of Our Lady, which for centuries has been hidden by Christians before the eyes of the Moors, who occupied Andalusia.
