In Gierloz – small village near Ketrzyn on Masuria are forested ruins of Adolf Hitlers headquarters - Wolf’s Lair. Masked town in the forest - 200 buildings: shelters, barracks, 2 airports, power, railway, air conditioners, water, heating plants, two teleprinters. In 1944 lived here more than 2,000 people. There were here a few floors underground. Floors were equipped with elevators and other special protection. Wolf’s Lair was marked by an extremely complex system of security. Soviet and Allied intelligence was never able to locate the position of the accommodation. Even the local population Gierloz did not know what really lies there. It was in Wolf’s Lair took place famous attempt on Hitler - July 20, 1944 Colonel Claus Schenk von Stauffenberg made a failed assassination attempt here to Adolf Hitler. Here was decided about force plans to build Thousand Rzeszy. Here was taken criminal decisions regarding the fate of many nations of Europe. Here worked and lived among others: Adolf Hitler, Hermann Goering, Heinrich Himmler, Martin Bormann, Wilhelm Keitel, Joseph Goebbels, Dr. Fritz Todt, Albert Speer and others.
