Stutthof Concentration Camp was established at the outbreak of World War II, 2 September 1939. Here, from the first days of the war they were deposited Poles and Jews who survived the pogroms, which have carried out special operations group of the Security Police and Security Service (Einsatzgruppen der Sicherheitspolizei und Sicherheitsdienst). Within the 5 years of the Stutthof Concentration Camp it was registered in the total of about 110 000 prisoners. They were citizens of 28 countries, both European, which under German occupation, but neutral states and the United States, which occurred into the Stutthof since 1942. Since mid-1944 at the Stutthof in order to kill the prisoners began to use a gas chamber. Stutthof Museum was established thanks to the efforts of former prisoners of the Stutthof camp on March 12, 1962 year. The museum covers the preserved part of the buildings and equipment, among other things, partly preserved Old Camp, gas chamber headquarters with garages, space vegetable gardens and greenhouses. The grounds include reconstruction of the crematoria, monumental statue by Victor Tolkin. Particularly rich are collected and stored in the archives of the camp.
