Mostar – capital Herzegovina, is one of the most beautifully situated cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, located at the foot of the mountains and along the current of the river Neretva. Its name is derived from the word ’Mostari’ - ’guardians of the bridge’. His most precious place is the sixteenth-century bridge, entered several years ago by UNESCO. The first traces of settlement originate from prehistory (Neolithic). These areas were also inhabited in Roman times. One of the most beautiful and oldest monuments of Mostar is famous bridge, built of white stone. Its history dates back to the Middle Ages, when after the founding of the Turkish fortress was destroyed wooden bridge. There is an element which blends perfectly with the whole environment, because most of the buildings in the town also stood out of the building material. There is even a local legend that says that once God was flying with a sack of stones, and the devil hole in the bag. All stones fallen through a hole in one place and so created Herzegovina. Besides, in Mostar it deserves attention primarily old town. In Mostar you will find many old streets, Tabhana - palace where worked in the processing of leather, Tara - a stone tower, houses the Turkish, beautiful mosques, among others, Karadjoz-bey mosque is considered the most beautiful mosque in Herzegovina.
