Super Pit

Kalgoorlie - a mining town situated in Western Australia. The town’s origins date back 1893 when a group of Irish gold miners were forced to stay in the area. It turned out that just a little dig the soil surface to show the gold. Soon the water was brought there from Perth and the town began to grow. Currently, the biggest attraction is the mine in Kalgoorlie, especially hole in the ground (Super Pit) dug by Alan Bond. This is a huge open pit mine 3.6 km long, 1.6 km wide, depth of over 500 m. In this hole gold copies of a non-stop 24 hours a day for more than 100 years, and gold resources seem inexhaustible. Kalgoorlie is considered the richest city in Australia after Canberra. The town has also a Museum of the Goldfields.
